Dimapur, May 9: The Zeliang People’s Organisation (ZPO) Nagaland, the apex tribal organisation of the Zeliang tribe, has declared that it will not attend the special meeting of all tribal hohos called by the Government of Nagaland at the State Banquet Hall on May 11 after the meeting circular issued by the Home Department: Political Branch invited a different organisation to represent the recognised Zeliang tribe of Peren District.
In a press release, the ZPO-N said it shall also not be party to any decision or resolution so adopted in the meeting which may later be “detrimental and jeopardizing to our future.”
The ZPO Nagaland has also sought an immediate clarification from the Government of Nagaland for extending invitation to a different organization to represent the recognized Zeliang tribe of Peren District other than the ZPO Nagaland.
In a letter to the Chief Secretary, Nagaland, the ZPO Nagaland reminded that the Government of Nagaland has not granted recognition to no such tribes as Zeliangrong in Nagaland except Zeliang.
“However, the invitation indicated in Sl. No.16 of the proposed special meeting extended to a different organisation to represent the recognised Zeliang Tribe of Peren District from other than the Zeliang People’s Organisation (ZPO) Nagaland is absolutely misleading and pose as stark threat not only to the Zeliang tribe but the entire interest of all recognised Indigenous Naga Tribes of Nagaland,” it said.
“The Chief Secretary, therefore, is now solely answerable to the issue that has led to challenging the legitimate and inherent rights of our people as well as other indigenous tribes of Nagaland,” it said while demanding immediate clarification.
