Zhaleo Rio inaugurates Modern College, Piphema Campus

Piphema, May 8: Nagaland Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio today inaugurated Modern College, Piphema Campus.
The college was earlier located at Porter Lane Kohima along with Modern Academy but with inclusion of PU or Classes 11 and 12 to be part of school education and undergraduate & above courses in colleges, Modern College was shifted to Piphema.
Modern College functions under Modern Society of Education, which runs three institutions Modern Higher Secondary School from Class Nursery to 12 (with all three streams) and also Modern Institute of Teacher Education (MITE) at the same location at Porter Lane Kohima and Modern College offering Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Vocation at Piphema, above NH-2, said Managing Director of the College, Pelee Hekha.
He said that Piphema campus has academic block, indoor stadium, 3 hostels, Botanical Garden, Dairy Farm, fishery pond and an orange orchard while sports facilities include Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Indoor stadium for Badminton & Table Tennis.
Hekha also informed that Modern College will continue to have an office at Kohima where MHSS now operates along with the IGNOU study centre.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Advisor Rio encouraged the students to take advantage of the modern amenities and facilities created by the authorities of Modern College. Maintaining that the campus has a healthy atmosphere and ambience for education, he said students should study sincerely and achieve greater heights.
Calling upon them to acquire quality education from the college, he said formal education is not enough in the competitive world and therefore education should be coupled with knowledge of economy, skill development, capacity building and also ethical values.
He therefore encouraged them not only attend college for sake of study and also to run after white-collared job but they have to change the mindset to be hardworking person as there is no room for unemployment for such persons.
Pointing out that there are more than 72,700 educated unemployed youths in the live register of the state, he asked them not to discouraged but take it as a challenge that under government sector job avenues are limited but immense job opportunities are open in the private sectors & entrepreneurship and also make efforts to get through competitive exams.
Meanwhile, Rio also welcomed the establishment of the reputed college under his Assembly Constituency in Ghaspani-II saying that the area lacked such institute. He also lauded the landowners of Piphema for willfully giving their land while also requesting the college authorities to consider students of the area for accommodation into the institute.
Saying that in Nagaland since the land belongs to individuals or the community and even the state government faces problems from landowners while carrying out developmental works, the Advisor urged upon the people of Piphema to uphold the agreement reached with Modern Education Society till the end.
On the occasion, Zhaleo Rio also inaugurated the Botanical Garden supported by Botanical Survey of India (BSI) under Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change; unveiled the monolith of the campus; inaugurated the academic block, three hostels and Indoor Stadium of the college spread over 102 acres of land.
Piphema Khenu Krüta Krotho president Pelezotuo Kuotsu and Chakhroma Public Organisation president Zhato Kimho also extended greetings on the occasion while also asserting full support of the villagers towards the development and progress of the institute. Principal of Modern College, Dr Vitsou Yano delivered the welcome address and College Development Manager Kaikho Losü tendered the vote of thanks. Hostellers of Modern College enthralled the gathering with special number.
