Zhaleo grace ASUS golden jubilee

Dimapur, April 18: The Angami Students’ Union, Shillong celebrated its golden jubilee on April 14, with Zhaleo Rio, Deputy Speaker, NLA, as the chief guest at State Library Hall, Shillong.
In his speech, Zhaleo served a volley of things to-do, which according to him, could be inculcated from living outside the state particularly as students. “Dignity of labour is inevitable in order to succeed and prosper in life”, he advised while challenging that young Nagas must learn the value of sweating it out for sustenance and which, as a result, can arrest immigration of all kinds to a great extent in the long run.
“It is immigration that robs the economy of our local populace,” he remarked and reiterated his argument stating that there is no necessity to compete for government jobs, etc but rather “opt for self employment through dignity of labour” which is vivid even among Khasis. “There is enough room for self employment in our state so long one is ready to stoop low and sacrifice oneself for a successful life”, he stressed while lamenting that many Nagas cry over unemployment issue without proper consideration of the options available in the state.
Citing that Nagas outside the state should learn and practice exemplary habits even in Nagaland, Zhaleo pointed out the practice of cleanliness in Shillong which is still a far-fetched dream in Nagaland. “It is time Nagas change and put such exceptional practices into action, led by people who have the experience of living outside our state,” he opined.
Others who attended the celebration included Methanilie Jütakhrie and band as well as executives of ASU Nagaland led by its president Visako Rino.
Meanwhile, at the behest of senior student and public leaders, Rio later visited the site for construction of a Nagaland Rest House, opposite NEIGRIHMS Shillong, which belong to the Government of Nagaland. It may be noted that the site has been lying unattended for years due to opposition from certain quarters. Rio, who was accompanied by Assistant Resident Commissioner, Nagaland House, Shillong, assured to personally intervene for an amicable solution on the issue at the earliest and to initiate construction of the house which is meant to help patients, particularly from Nagaland.
