Dimapur, August 17: The 24-hour bandh on vehicular movement and ban on all construction works of national projects called by Zeliangrong Civil organizations concluded today.
The agitation was launched following the failure of the Government of India and Manipur to book NSCN (IM) functionaries, Sangailung Pamei, CAO, Zeilad Region, Thailik alias Joel, Deputy Kilonser and Captain Khangdi, who were involved in abduction of youths and student leaders on August 4 last and their involvement in obstruction and disruption of students’ union election on August 3 at Tamenglong district.
A press release issued by general secretary, Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland), Gainithoi Gonmei, stated that the NSCN (IM) which is engaged in peace negotiation with the Government of India should not be allowed by Government of India to commit such criminal activities upon the citizen taking advantage of the peace negotiations.
The ZB (AMN) said the Government of India and the Manipur Government is not initiating any action against those functionaries even after 24 hours of democratic agitation.
It said another ultimatum giving 96 hours was submitted today to the Union Home Minister and Chief Minister of Manipur demanding to book the functionaries of NSCN (IM) who were involved in the abduction and keeping the students in their captivity.
“In the event of failure to book those functionaries of NSCN/GPRN IM within 96 hours ultimatum shall compel the Zeliang Civil Organizations to launch different intense form of democratic agitation particularly indefinite ban of national projects construction works in Zeliangrong areas for which the Government of India and Government of Manipur would bear the entire responsibility.
Meanwhile, the Zeliangrong Civil organizations have expressed appreciation and gratitude to all the people irrespective of different communities, particularly the transport agencies for extending support to the agitation. (Page News Service)
