Zeilad National Workers’ Conference held supports Naga political peace process

Dimapur, March 2: In the context of the ongoing Indo-Naga political talks at the threshold of signing the final agreement, the Zeilad National Workers’ Conference was organized under the aegis of Zeilad
Region of National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) at Phungong Catholic Ground, Tamenglong on February 20 on the theme: “Towards a New Era”.
Besides the Naga political issue, the conference deliberated on wide ranging socio-economic issues facing the Rongmeis today. Eminent personalities participated in the conference touching on various topics.
Pou Dimgonlung Rongmei, Secretary, Development & Relief Department, Rongmei Naga Baptist Association (RNBA), presented a paper entitled “Social Innovation and Sustainable Model for Economic Development.” Another paper entitled “Rebuilding the Rongmei Tribe” was presented by Pou G. Gaingam, Former Vice-President of Naga Hoho.
The members of the conference focused their discussions on some of the main issues like encouragement to value additional activities of local products, cultural development for all round development, promotion of Rongmei literature, need for research on replacement of jhum cultivation, need for conservation of indigenous natural resources, priority to be given to Naga political solution and support to Rongmei Naga People’s Organization (RNPO).
According to a press release issued by George Golmei, Central Administrative Officer (CAO), Zeilad Region, NSCN (IM), the conference resolved that due recognition be given to Rongmei tribe as a separate entity and the need that all Rongmei people along with frontal organizations of the tribe extent fullest support to each other in rebuilding the Rongmei tribe.
It resolved that the Rongmei people shall ever strive to uphold their roots-traditional geographical territory, cultures, customs and traditions and they will at all cost protect the natural resources and endeavor to use it to amplify its value and preserve it for future.
It recommended that standardization of Rongmei land holding system be undertaken without causing undue disturbance to the existing local equilibrium.
The conference further resolved to extend fullest support to the Naga political peace process based on 3rd August, 2015, Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India (GoI) and NSCN, and to continue to pressure the parties for an honorable and conclusive solution at the earliest.
The conference was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Pou R K. Ringthim, Member of Collective Leadership by hoisting the Naga national flag. The Chief Guest also released the memento of the conference.
There was a huge turned out from the Rongmei public comprising of civil society leaders, village chairmen, reverends and pastors of the town churches, retired government officers, prayer warriors and other well-wishers.
The conference witnessed active collaboration and participation of the Rongmei public. Traditional dance was presented by Phungong Youth Club. Zeilad Region acknowledged the various contributions made by former civil society leaders, prayer warriors, present and retired national workers by way of presenting them citations.
