ZCO condemns NSCN (IM) for torturing villagers

Dimapur, September 2: Zeliangrong Civil Organizations, namely Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland), Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) and Zeliangrong Students’ Union have strongly condemned the NSCN (IM) for severe torturing members of village authority of Luangreng village on September 1.
The village authorities tortured, the ZCO said, are Kadimiang Phaomei, Tinilung Panmei, Meiroulung, Kakhugang Phaomei, Gaiboulung Phaomei, Kadigampou and Jaitangai,
In a statement, the ZCO said the village authorities were beaten “black and blue” on the charge of allowing ZUF cadres to stay in the village and demanding the village authority “to immediately bring a pig for their meal”.
“As pig was not easily available in the village, the members of the Village Authority took some time while running here and there to find a pig hence came back late. Without giving any chance and opportunity for the Village Authority members to explain why coming late and how the ZUF cadres stayed in the village, the NSCN (IM) started beating,” it claimed.
The statement also alleged that on August 26, about 10 cadres of NSCN (IM) came to Khoupum and tortured Kaningdai Riamei and his family members at Tousemjang, Khoupum after barging through the main door of his house.
“The NSCN (IM) cadres torturing the public has now created fear psychosis to the minds of the innocent public,” it stated.
Appealing to the NSCN (IM) not to blame innocent village authority members and general public for the presence of cadres of any underground outfits including ZUF group in the village, the ZCO reasoned that since the cadres of underground group are wielding arms, no members of the village authority can turn away any cadres of underground groups including the NSCN (IM) cadres. “Therefore the action of the NSCN (IM) blaming the public can aggravate the situation and spoil the peaceful environment if similar action is resorted by any other groups if NSCN (IM) cadres are found staying in any village,” it said.
Stating that the NSCN (IM) is engaging in peace negotiation with Government of India with certain understanding and having cease fire ground rules especially not to move around with arms except in the “Bunning” designated camp located near Tamei HQ, the ZCO said coming down to Khoupum and Luangreng (Nungnang) villages of extreme south of far distance is violation of ceasefire ground rules and a matter of serious concern. It urged GoI not to allow the NSCN (IM) to spoil the peaceful and conducive atmosphere in the area on the pretext of factional fighting. “Also the peace negotiation should not be misused by the NSCN (IM) to torture and harass the innocent public taking advantage of the peace negotiation rather the NSCN (IM) should focus on Naga solution since the negotiation has already completed more than twenty years,” it added.
