Dimapur, October 4: The Yimchungru Tribal Council (YTC) has expressed gratitude to Kiphire Battalion Assam Rifles for their continued support in alleviating the problems faced by the community in the remote border villages of Pungro Region.
In a release, YTC said the routine problems faced by the community got severe with the imposition of lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic with people facing problems in access to medical support and health care.
The Assam Rifles with its profound outreach into the remotest border areas extended novel humanitarian support by organizing numerous health care camps during the peak of COVID pandemic in the month of July, 2020 and provided medical checkup and free medicine to over 600 patients from the remote villages of Mimi, Longkhimong, TSurevong, Khongsa, Salomi, Penkim and Pokphur under Pungro Sub-Division of Kiphire District, it said.
The Assam Rifles also assisted Yimchungru community by extending free transport support for carriage of disaster relief CGI sheets to Salomi village as well as rations to Hakkumute, it said.
YTC also acknowledged the Assam Rifles for their unstinted support by providing various civil action projects in Pungro sub-division to address the emergent needs and aspiration of the community. With the support from Assam rifles, the community got vocational & skill development training centre at Pungro, agro farming shed at Pungro village, recurring clearance of road blockages , pre recruitment training & guidance/support for Sainik school entrances for youth and students as well as extensive tree plantations drive, it added.
