Yearlong commemoration of 75th anniversary of Battle of Kohima

Dimapur, March 30: The 75th anniversary of the World War II Battle of Kohima (BoK) dubbed as the greatest battle of the war will be commemorated with a yearlong celebration throughout the year starting April 4 next, the day the battle started in 1944.
The yearlong celebration will kick start with an inaugural event on April 4 followed by events including scholarship award, capacity building training, BoK marathon, literary fest, film festival, vintage car rally, World War II trail walk, cross cultural event, parade/military tattoo, music and food festival, airshow and light & sound show, etc. spread throughout the year.
A meeting of the organizing committee of the yearlong event comprising of members from the State Government, Army and NGOs was held today under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, Temjen Toy, IAS in the Chief Secretary’s conference hall. After detailed discussions the committee finalized the programme for the main inaugural event on April 4. The event will be held at RCEMPA Jotsoma and attended by delegates from Japan led by its ambassador to India, representatives from the United Kingdom, United States Army, family members of the veterans of the BoK, Naga veterans of WW II besides officials of the State Government, Assam Rifles, students and public from nearby villages.
The programme will include speeches from the visiting dignitaries, Naga cultural presentations and flagging in of the BoK motor cycle rally, organized by Assam Rifles and flagged off from Kohima today (March 30).
