Dimapur, January 7: The Yachem Buhu Pangthai celebrated golden jubilee on January 4 at Yachem village with S. Pangnyu Phom, Minister for Health & Family Welfare as guest of honour and Hamba Phom, Sr. Pastor, Dimapur Phom Baptist Church as speaker on the theme “Sounding peace in unity”.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister urged the gathering to be positive in their approach and uphold the true sense of jubilee. Jubilee is a time for reconciliation, forgiving and day of regret; regret for the past mistakes, he said.
Pangnyu also emphasised that the Yachem village is blessed with different natural varieties but we have failed to explore its value. “As a result of our failure, so many varieties are being extinct,” he said and encouraged the youngster to research and preserved it.
Congratulating the Pangthai for successful 50 years of journey, the Minister hailed the pioneers of the Pangthai for their sacrifices and contribution and said “today, we are here to celebrate this joyful moment is all because of them”.
Speaker of the jubilee, Hamba Phom speaking on the topic “Sounding Peace in Unity” said that the peace is essential for any development and growth of the society. “We can preach or give seminar on peace but we have failed to put those into our practical life,” he said, adding the world and the society should acknowledge the peace treaty signed between Yachem and Changtongya and be an example for all the peace loving citizens of the society.
Earlier, the Minister also inaugurated the Community Hall of Yachem Village.
Commemorating the jubilee, a citizen seminar was also organised with Rev. Phomlee Van, M. Nyathei Phom and M. Shayung Phom as resource persons on the topics fundamental responsibilities of citizens, social etiquettes, substance abuse, critical analysis of our customary law in relation with women’s rights and resurgence and correct usage of our dialect.
