Y Patton warns road contractors

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 22: Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton on Monday stressed on the need to improve the quality of road works in the State, and warned that any contractor who fails to ensure quality and specification of road work as well as timely completion will be blacklisted.

Patton who is also in-charge of PWD (Road & Bridges) made the statement after inspecting the Akash Bridge- Kanjang Road under Meluri Sub-Division in Phek district on Monday.
The Deputy CM informed that that 563 KM of roads have been earmarked for construction in the State for all Assembly constituencies under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), with the rider that the ongoing projects have to be completed before March 2022 for the new projects to get sanctioned.
A press release issued by the Media Cell, Deputy CM’s Office said Patton is inspecting ongoing projects in the State to ensure timely completion of the projects. He urged the contractor to execute the project to ensure timely completion by putting in more manpower as well as machineries while also instructing the Department officials to supervise the same so that it is completed within the stipulated time frame.
Patton informed that a notification has been issued that a signboard would be put up with the name of contractors/ firms constructing roads and the engineer supervising the same, so as to ensure quality workmanship.
He also stressed on the need to improve the State performance index in the country.
Inspecting the Akash Bridge-Kanjang road, the Deputy CM directed the Department and the contractor to complete the project by March 2022. He expressed happiness to the citizens of the area stating, “There is no issue on landownership for execution of the project unlike other places”, and also expressed delight at the cooperation from public for execution of project without any hindrance.
The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Akash Bridge- Kanjang road is being executed by M/s Nagaland Steel Engineering.

The Deputy CM was accompanied by Minister for Soil & Water Conservation, Geology & Mining, and NSMDC, V Kashiho Sangtam, MLA Yitachu, Principal Secretary of Works & Housing Menukhol John, Engineer in Chief of PWD, Er. Limanaro, Chief Engineer PWD (R&B), Er. Kahuli and other officials along with Superintendent of Police (SP) Phek, Vesupra Kezo, ADC Meluri and host of public leaders of the area.
