World Veterinary Day celebrated across the State

Dimapur, April 26: World Veterinary Day was celebrated across all the districts of the State on April 24, on the theme “Veterinarian response to the Covid-19 crisis”.
The celebrations were organized by Nagaland Veterinarian’s Association (NVA) in collaboration with State Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services.

Dimapur: Dimapur District celebrated World Veterinary Day with the farmers of Doyapur village. The president of NVA, Dr. Nsanthung Ezung, CVO, Dimapur, gave keynote address. PowerPoint presentation on activities of the Dimapur District Veterinary during the pandemic was presented by VAS, Vety. Hospital, Dimapur, Dr. Bocto Sumi. A short speech was delivered by Doyapur Village Council Chairman.
A short formal programme was followed by livestock mela, farmer’s orientation, and distribution of mineral & vitamin mixture.
Zunheboto: The department of AHVS, Zunheboto, celebrated World Veterinary Day at Veterinary Hospital, Zunheboto.
CVO Zunheboto, Dr. Meyatoshi Aier thanked the pet owners for participating and spoke on the benefits of rearing pets. The NVA presidential address, on behalf of Zunheboto district, was delivered by VAS Zunheboto, Dr. Vinoto H Ayemi. Altogether 113 dogs and 3 cats were given anti-rabies vaccine. De-worming tablets (Albendazole), multi-vitamin powder etc. were distributed to around 90 pigs owners free of cost.
Wokha: Wokha district observed World Veterinary Day at Englan village, with EAC Englang Hq, Echungbemo Erui as the guest of honour. CVO Wokha, Dr. N Thungben Yanthan delivered the keynote address. Veterinarian response to Covid-19 crisis was delivered by Dr. Yenben Kikon. The formal programme was followed by anti-rabies vaccination.
Longleng: Longleng NVA unit celebrated World Veterinary Day at Pongo village in collaboration with the Pongo Baptist Church.
A brief program on the World Veterinary Day was held in the first session. Dr. Aoyimsen Jamir read the message from the NVA president and expressed gratitude to the church for hosting the event.
The second session featured training on economics and management of backyard piggery by Dr. Aoyimsen Jamir and feed management by Dr. Lily Ngullie.
The third session was on “important diseases of pigs” with special reference to ASF by Dr. L Bongtok Phom and management of backyard poultry by Dr. Vilie Medoze.
Tuensang: In Tuensang district, the activity was restricted due to COVID-19 pandemic. However about 200 dogs were vaccinated with anti-rabies vaccine.
Phek: In Phek, the World Veterinary Day was celebrated, by awarding paraveterinary workers of the district with token of appreciation for their service, and discussion on ASF outbreak besides highlighting the theme of the day.
Peren: Peren district observed World Veterinary Day at Ngwalwa town. Awareness programme was conducted and items like hand sanitizers, face masks, vitamins, disinfectants etc. were distributed.

Mon: Mon district Unit of NVA celebrated World Veterinary Day with students of DBS, Tizit, Mon. Due to COVID-19 precautionary measures, only students of class IX & X attended the celebration.
