World Environment Day on June 5


Dimapur, May 24: The Government of India is hosting the World Environment Day 2018 on June 5 on the theme “Plastic Pollution” at global level in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment).
A notification issued by Prof. Rajnish Jain, Secretary of University Grants Commission (UGC) (Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India) directed the universities to undertake activities from the following indicative list during World Environment Day 2018 on June 5.
College/university level networking activities on mass awareness on disposal of plastic.
Mini Marathon (Envirothon)
Restrict single-use plastic water bottle and encourage use of refillable bottles instead
Ban take-away coffee cup, lunch wrapped in disposable plastic packaging, plastic bags; disposable foodservice cups, plates, and containers made in polystyrene foam; plastic straws; etc.
Cleanliness Drives under Swachch Bharat Mission in municipalities
Public awareness through cultural programmes, nukkad natak
College/university level afforestation programme
Mobile Exhibition of forests wealth
Special programme for differently abled children
Involvement of NCC, NSS, Eco-clubs, students in mass awareness campaigns
The Secretary of UGC also gave an order to take appropriate necessary actions on the above points in the esteemed university and also circulate the same to all the colleges affiliated to the university.
