Dimapur, September 10: A one day workshop on “Teaching of writing skills to students” was conducted on September 8 at C-Edge College, organised by Department of English, C-Edge College (C-EC) in collaboration with the Cue Academy Centre of Writing Skills Kohima and supported by the Kiremwati Chair.
In the technical session I on “Issues involved in teaching writing skills”, Vezolu Puro, Instructor, Cue Academy and Yimwapangla, Asst. Prof, Department of English (C-EC) focussed on the complexities faced by the students in their writing skills such as poor grammar, weak vocabulary, poor comprehension and inability to construct sentences well. The presenters also gave suggestion on how the students can improve their writings skills by giving them positive feedback, emphasise practice in writing and reading, avoiding plagiarism and inculcating in them analytical and cognitive reasoning. There were two sessions on methodology. The sessions were taken by Dr Chubatola Aier, Principal (C-EC) and Vezolu Puro. Methodology I focused on understanding the nature and process of writing and Methodology II session engaged the participants in practical group work to share views on how the steps involved in process teaching of writing could be applied.
The workshop was attended by participants from Hope Academy, Highland Hall School, Dimapur Government College, Unity Hr. Sec. School, Bethel Baptist School, Government High School Naga United and C-Edge College.
