Dimapur, October 31: A 1- day workshop on mediation techniques with officials of Customary Court was held on October 29 at Dimapur District Legal Services Authority front office. The workshop was chaired by Sentimenla, panel lawyer, DDLSA and keynote address was delivered by Y Longkumer, Principal District & Sessions Judge & chairperson DDLSA.
In the first session, Limasenla Longkumer, State panel lawyer spoke on the topics “Concept of mediation, role of mediator and difference between mediation and judicial process/arbitration/Lok Adalat/conciliation/panchayat.”
Limhathung Ezong, State panel lawyer was the resource in the second session and spoke on the topics “Stages of mediation process and benefits of mediation”.
There was also an interaction session. The workshop was atte1ded by 12 members of the Customary Court.
Kohima DLAS also conducted one day workshop on mediation techniques with the officials of customary courts at Phenshunyu village panchayat. The programme was chaired by Mhayani Kikon, panel lawyer Kohima DLSA. Short speech was given by the chairman village council Phenshunyu village, chairman of Khenyu village, chairman of Phentejon bamboo model village.
In his keynote address, Phuleto Yeptho, secretary Kohima DLSA highlighted about the functions and importance of legal services, the role of panel lawyer, PLV and also gave a basic introduction of mediation.
A topic presentation on legal aid and its services was presented by Mika H.Aye, panel lawyer KDLSA. She stressed on Legal Services Authority and its constitution, the avail of legal service, to whom it can be provided, and also she highlighted about the importance of Lok Adalat.
A topic presentation on mediation techniques as an alternate dispute redressal was presented by Veswupoi Theyo, Advocate Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench.
