Workshop on film documentation held at PCC

Dimapur, October 29: The Department of Mass Communication, Patkai Christian College (PCC), Chümoukedima, organised a workshop on ‘The art of Film Documentation’ at its studio with Yapangnaro Longkumer, filmmaker, and general secretary, Film Association of Nagaland (FAN) as the resource person on October 27.
Longkumer delved into the art of documentation and further explored avenues of filming truth in documentary and the possibility of different aspects of truth.
She advised the students to emphasise on research before making documentaries.
She also discussed on how one should be careful while choosing a story and that there are certain ethics that needs to be followed.
As suggestion she said it’s important to make the subjects feel comfortable rather than being an object of gaze. To this end it is important to understand human emotions, she added.
Different documentaries, including Nanook of the North, Bowling for Columbine were discussed during the workshop.
Longkumer also discussed the nuances of filmmaking and the challenges that lie ahead while maintaining perseverance and passion can take filmmakers close to their goals.
Reflecting on different documentaries, there was an interactive session with the students.
