Dimapur, October 15: Organized by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Mokokchung in co-ordination with Agri & Allied departments, Watsu Mungdang, NSRLM, NABARD and SBI, Mokokchung, Women Farmer’s Day was celebrated at Mokokchung on Monday at MMC shopping complex. The celebration was marked with events such as Mahila Kisan Mela and seminar on “Strengthening women farmers in Mokokchung”.
Speaking on the occasion, special guest Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal congratulated the women farmers for their contributions and encouraged them to join hands towards making the district a “Food Basket” for all. He urged all the stakeholders to further work in co-ordination for the welfare of the women farmers in the district.
The celebration witnessed recognition of women farmers with awards and citations under the District Level Best Women Farmer Award and District Level Best Women Farmer Group Award which was handed over by the Deputy Commissioner & Chairman, Governing Board, ATMA, Mokokchung.
On the occasion, credit support facilities were also released to 18 women farmers from Satsu, Mangmetong, Satier and New Camp provided through NABARD and SBI, Mokokchung under the Area Development Scheme.
Joint Director, State Agriculture Research Station (SARS), Yisemyong, Temsuienla delivered the welcome address while District Agriculture Officer & PD ATMA, Mokokchung gave the acknowledgement. H. Hangshing, Assistan general manager, SBI, RBO spoke on the area development scheme.
Sixteen women farmer groups and individual farmers from different villages sold their farm products during the event. Women Farmer’s Day was celebrated as a mark of recognition of women farmers for the contributions and effort towards agricultural development and food security in the district.
During the technical session, Dr Lanunochetla, Deputy DAO, Mokokchung covered the topic “Avenues for Self Employment for Women in Agriculture” while topics on “Farmer Producer Organization & Cluster Development” and “Credit Linkage Services for Women Farmers” were covered by S. Amarjit Mangang, District Development Manager, NABARD and Chinlianthang Ngaithe, Chief Manager, SBI, Mokokchung Bazaar Branch respectively.
Mon: A programme on Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) “Mon Women Farmer’s Day – 2018” was held at Mon Town DRDA conference hall on October 15.
DHO & Project Director, ATMA Mon, Eyongol Natso cited that women are the driving force of self-help groups and urged them to work hard.
Technical sessions on various topics were given by Leiwang Konyak, Assistant Technology Manger; Subenthung Odyuo, Deputy Director ATMA and Mhachamo Ngullie, Block Technology Manager and the function was chaired by Subenthung Odyuo. (Page News Service)
