KOHIMA, JULY 8: Mokokchung police arrested a 33-year old woman today for physically abusing a minor girl.
Police made the arrest after a FIR was lodged by 1098 Mokokchung and in coordination with Child Welfare Committee on July 7, SP, Mokokchung, told Nagaland Page when contacted.
According to Childline 1098 Mokokchung, the minor is related to the person accused and was living at the accused’s place since April this year.
Centre Coordinator for Childline 1098 Mokokchung told Nagaland Page that a concerned citizen called Childline 1098 around 1 p.m. on July 7 with information about the accused abusing the minor and requesting Childline to take action.
Childline Mokokchung immediately mobilized a team to rescue the child and took her to their office to record her statement. “Initially, the child was reluctant to say anything but later on she confided about mistreatment by the accused by pointing to fresh wounds which can still be found on her body”, said the Centre Coordinator .
Apart from the fresh wounds, there were signs that the minor was mistreated in the past, informed the Centre Coordinator.
The child has fresh wounds on the head, and bruised frenulum believed to be have been caused by the impact on the teeth when slapped, bruised lips, protruding forehead, partial blood clotting on the eye. There is also a hard surface on the arm which is believed to have been caused by blow of a hammer, again there are swellings on her arm which are believed to have been caused by the blow of a pestle, the CC said.
“After taking the minor to Lemjem Hospital for COVID-19 testing with police escort, the child was again taken to Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital, where a doctor confirmed that the wounds were inflicted using varied objects as described by the child”, said the CC.
SP, Mokokchung, said based on injury report of the Hospital, the accused was arrested today.
At the present the child is being taken care at a Children Home in Mokokchung.
The parents of the child, who lives in Assam, have also been informed about the situation.
