Wokha hosts half-marathon race to promote education

Dimapur, March 19: As part of a Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities and awareness on election, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Wokha conducted a Half-Marathon race for the students of Government Higher Secondary School, Wokha on March 19. The Half Marathon Race was flagged off by SDO Civil & Nodal officer SVEEP, Nuhuta Tunyi at Traffic Police Point Wokha and culminated at GHSS Wokha.
Speaking about the event, SDO Civil Wokha and SVEEP Nodal officer emphasized on the importance of voting and urged the students to spread the message that voting is a fundamental right for every citizen. Tunyi highlighted that the marathon participants were prospective voters representing the future electorate, stressing the significance of preparing them to exercise their voting rights when they come of age. Additionally, students were encouraged to raise awareness among their peers, elders, and community members to ensure broader participation in the electoral process.
The half marathon was organised, with participants competing in separate categories for men and women. Hangkai Konyak clinched the first prize in the women’s category, followed by Lothungbeni Kikon in second place and Zuchanbeni Humtsoe in third.
Meanwhile, in the men’s category, Puchong secured the first prize, Merichan Ngullie came in second, and Y Renjanthung Kikon finished third. The program aimed to engage the community and foster a culture of civic responsibility and active participation in the democratic process.
Cash prizes with certificates were awarded to the winners and certificates of participation was also presented to all participants. The District Administration and the Election Department, Wokha extended their gratitude to the Government Higher Secondary School for their valuable support and collaboration in conducting the event successfully.
