Wokha District prepares for RV immunization


Dimapur, July 16: Wokha District Task Force held a meeting on July 16 to discuss immunization of Rotavirus vaccine which is scheduled to be conduct in the last week of July 2019.
Rotavirus vaccine is a highly contagious virus that causes diarrhea in children which may lead to hospitalization and even death. In India available data shows rotavirus is responsible for nearly 40% of moderate to serve diarrhea in children under 5 years, amounting to 8.72 lakh hospitalization, 32.7 lakh outpatient visit and 78.000 deaths annually.
Apart from the burden of death due to rotavirus diarrhea it can also cause long term nutritional complications and loss of cognitive development potential.
For the successful implementation of the programme, Dr Khelito Zhimomi, DPO UIP/RCH Wokha informed that District level training of all medical officers, programme officers has already been completed since June 2019. Block level training for Asha, Anganwadi workers, FLW, ANMs are also completed. Massive campaign at village level is going on in village health & nutrition days and other logistic equipments, human resources are kept ready for implementation in the district.
Deputy Commissioner, Wokha & chairman District Task Force for immunization, Dr Manazir Jeelani Samoon appealed to all line departments, stake holders, NGOs, Churches to extend cooperation and support in generating awareness for the success of the campaign. He further informed that District Health Society meeting will be conducted on August 5.
