Wokha District declares 2018 as Year of Cleanliness

Dimapur, May 9: As per the proposal submitted by Dr Chumben Murry, MLA, 38th Wokha A/C, the Wokha District Planning & Development Board has approved to declare the year 2018 as year of cleanliness for Wokha under the theme “Clean Wokha-Beautiful Wokha.”
This was announced during the monthly DPDB meeting held on May 9 in the DC’s conference hall, Wokha. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of vice-chairman DPDB and Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Dr Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS.
Briefing the board with regard to declaration of year of cleanliness, the Administrator, Wokha Town Council & ADC, Nokchasashi highlighted activities to be undertaken and things to be implemented – garbage collection has been increased from 3 days in a week to 6 days a week by WTC (daily garbage generation = Approx. 0.5-1.0 M/T per day), sweepers deployed in the town on daily basis, 5 pick-up vehicles for waste disposal under Swachh Bharat Mission is in place (MoU signed), mass social work to be conducted bi-monthly (with the involvement of the wards/ colonies, all Govt. offices and machineries, etc.), all shops to keep waste bin and to keep their surroundings clean, proper drainage to be maintained by the wards/colonies, improvement of facilities for sanitation workers where proper implements, tools and materials to be provided for their safety.
There will be competition among the colonies of Wokha town, and acknowledgement/ awards may be given to the best 3 colonies. The award may be given out on the last DPDB of the year. A separate fund may be kept aside for this purpose from the LADF-common pool, and a committee constituted for the award. The Administrator also informed the board that utility of cesspool will be made operational by June.
The DC apprised the board about the visit to Ralan area on April 14 where he was accompanied by SP Wokha and District administration and during which a consultative meeting with Assam officials and officials of SSP was held to take stock of the ongoing semi-permanent structure construction.
