New Delhi, February 1: The Northeast region has a very high priority in the Government’s developmental agenda, said the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday, while assuring that the Centre will to ensure smooth access to financial assistance from funding agencies.
Presenting Union Budget 2020 today, the FM said the Government is ensuring smooth access to financial assistance from multilateral and bilateral funding agencies to help introduce innovative and global best practices.
“Central Government has effectively used an online portal to reduce the gestation period. This has improved the flow of funds to the northeast region,” she said.
The Government is making all efforts to push Act East Policy to benefit marginalized and vulnerable groups of people in backward and neglected areas of Northeastern states, she said.
The Centre is also stepping up its initiative to consolidate and integrate Northeast India with the heartland.
Meanwhile the 2020-21 Budget outlay under the DoNER ministry’s special development package – meant for the 3 territorial councils constituted under the Sixth Schedule in Assam – have been raised to Rs 101 crore. This is double the amount of expenditure in 2018-19. (Agencies)
