Will continue to be pressure group for citizens’ welfare: AKMWP

Kohima, September 2: The Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) will continue to be a watchdog and a pressure group for the welfare of the citizens of the State capital.
AKMWP president Neibulie Kiewhuo made the affirmation at the induction ceremony of new team AKMWP office bearers for the tenure 2020-2025 held at Ward-17 Panchayat Hall, Kohima on Wednesday.
Kiewhuo has been selected as the president of the association for the second consecutive term.
“We will also continue to assist the law enforcement agencies and development agencies as stated in our constitution” added Kiewhuo.
Maintaining that the association was an NGO, Kiewhuo said that AKMWP is a non-political organization and does not share affiliations with any political parties.
“AKWMP is governed by its own constitution and will stand firm to it,” he said, adding that AKMWP’s motto is “together we progress” and accordingly we have progressed thus far.
Recapping the progress made by the outgoing AKMWP executives, he lauded his team of former office bearers for bringing recognition to the organization from the highest governmental office.
Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu, Rio has also recognized our association and considered our appeal when our wards came up with a solution saying that AKMWP have to ask for a total lockdown at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in Kohima, kiewhuo said.
He mentioned that at the onset of the pandemic, many wards also urged the AKMWP to appeal for a total lockdown and they even forced the association that if they didn’t do so, the wards would impose total lockdown on their own.
“Thereby being the voice of the 19 wards of Kohima, we had to be the voice for our citizens. And in doing so, we have gained recognition as the State government has acceded to our appeal and imposed 7-days total lockdown,” Kiewhuo added.
Reminding about the AKMWP’s task in the days to come, Kiewhuo said without the support of the Chairman of the respective 19 wards, Gaon Buras and Colony Youths, AKMWP officials cannot do things alone. He therefore requested all the wards to cooperate with it as this association is not for individual interest but for every ward and citizen.
The second time president affirmed that the officials of association are always open to constructive criticism, solutions and opinions.
The latter part of the programme witnessed Head Goan Bura, Kohima Village Medo Keretsü pronounce traditional blessings for the new team while Pastor of Paraciezie Baptist Church Kohima, Kevichalie Metha offered the dedication prayer.
