Who lives and who dies in Avengers Infinity War? Directors reveal fate of off-screen characters

For those who are yet to come to terms with the climax of Avengers: Infinity War, here’s some news – both good and bad. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have now spoken about the off-screen characters and what fate befell them as Thanos snapped his fingers.
But before more details, here’s a spoiler alert for those who are yet to watch Avengers: Infinity War.
Ever since the film’s surprising end, fans have been asking what happened to the characters who were not on screen in Avengers 3 – like Black Panther’s sister Shuri, Hawkeye or, say, Thor’s love interest Jane Foster (Natalie Portman)? Did they perish in the judgement handed out by Thanos (Josh Brolin) or live to fight another day? The question becomes especially important as the Russos have made it clear that they don’t want to reverse the climax of the film.
“We do our best work when we follow our instincts and tell the story we want to tell,” the brothers told Variety. “We’ve had one or two experiences early in our careers where we didn’t do that and we learned a very hard lesson: When you try to predict what an audience wants, you’re going to make mush. When you commit to the story you want to tell, it tends to have a much more resonant impact on the audience … The audience can tell you they love chocolate ice cream, but if you give it to them every day, they’re going to get sick of it real fast. You’ve got to stay ahead of them.”
Now, in an interview to Huffington Post, they have sat down and discussed the fate of characters those who didn’t appear in the superhero extravaganza, including characters from The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Black Panther.
At the end of Avengers Infinity War, Thanos wiped out half the population of the universe including Rocket Raccoon (voice of Bradley Cooper) being the only member of the Guardians of the Galaxy to survive. Among Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, we are left with just Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), War Machine (Don Cheadle) and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr). In Wakanda, Okoye (Danai Gurira) and M’Baku (Winston Duke) have survived but the fate of Shuri (Letitia Wright) is not known.
Speaking to the website, while Joe believed revealing the fate of Wakandan princess was a “spoiler”, he was generous enough to reveal Nakia wasn’t part of Infinity War as “she’s on missions”.
From Wakanda to Asgard, the director brothers have already said that Valkyerie (Tessa Thompson) may have escaped Thanos wrath. However, they refused to reveal if Thor’s alien space buddies Miek and Korg (Taika Waititi) survived. The one who has definitely died is Asgardian warrior Lady Sif (Jamie Alexander). HuffPost reports the Russo brothers confirmed she won’t be involved in the Infinity War sequel as she is “gone”.
Returning to Earth, we can confirm that Peter Parker’s “unusually attractive aunt” May (Marisa Tomei) is “safe” but Russos believed letting us know what happened to the web-crawler’s best friend Ned was too much of a spoiler.
And here’s one for the fans, Howard The Duck survives – as confirmed by Joe Russo.
