Welfare schemes not reaching targeted group: Governor


Dimapur, July 4: Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya on Wednesday stated that for Nagaland to progress “we have to strengthen the society” and called upon all citizens to play their role towards development of the State. He was addressing an interactive session with Nagaland University officials of Mereima Campus today.
Stating that there are various Central and State Government schemes and welfare programmes, the Governor felt that the welfare programmes are not reaching the targeted group, and urged the University officials and student community to visit villages at regular intervals to identify the beneficiaries for Central and State flagship programmes
The basic foundation of a developed society is education, he said while terming educational institutions as the backbone of the society. The Governor opined that it was important to empower the young minds with knowledge, but however stated that they should not be self centred but should give back to the society once they achieve their educational goals.
The ultimate goal of education should be to strengthen and develop the society, he said.
Acharya also harped on the importance of introducing skill development courses in the university curriculum. He stated that jobs in the Government sector has reached a saturation point and the youth that come out of universities should be entrepreneurs.
“Let us make our academic empower the students and make them employable,” he stated.
Earlier Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, Prof Pradeshi Lal delivered the welcome address while Pro VC, NU Prof RC Gupta proposed the vote of thanks. (Page News Service)
