Week-long Science Festival – Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate concludes

Kohima, March 1: The week-long science festival for all under the theme “From Annals of history of Science” concluded at the Department of Science & Technology complex Kohima yesterday.
The weeklong pan India science festival dubbed as Vigyan Savatra Pujyate, which means science and technology is revered all over the world), an event to showcase science, technology and innovation from every part of the world was held at the Innovation Hub, Science & Technology Complex, Kohima from February 22-28.
Organized by the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) and the Ministry of Culture, GOI, in association with Vigyan Prasar, and in concurrence with the year-long programme “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, the festival was held simultaneously at 75 locations.
On Day 6 of the festival of SCoPE for all, the resource person Dr. Somnath Goshal from IIT Kharakpur spoke on a wide array of topics covering Science & Technology. He stressed on the need of improving various sectors of the country such as Information, communication & Technology, agriculture, education, implementation of schemes etc and how this would help the progress of the country. The theme of the day was “The Road ahead for next 25 years of Indian S& T” and it was held online.
The concluding day on Monday was attended by Sachin Chandrakumar Narwadiya, Scientist D of Vigyan Prasar, DST, GoI as the special guest.
Narwadiya mentioned about the essence of Science Day, its significance and why it is celebrated all over India. He also spoke on the opportunities of national and international scholarships in science and technology that the students and scholars can avail from the government and other funding agencies.
Dr. Shardul Wagh, the HoD of Biochemistry, Kamala Nehru Maha Vidyalaya, Nagpur, Maharashtra was the resource person of the day. He highlighted the achievements of and contributions of variousprominent scientists of India.
He lamented on the poor representation of women in Science and the dismal number of students taking up Science as a career.
Little Flower Higher Secondary School enthralled the audience with their street play on various renowned scientists of India who has made tremendous contributions in the field of Science & Technology.
Additional Secretary & Director Science and Technology Department Wonchio Odyuo in his valedictory speech thanked the Ministry of Culture, Vigyan Prasar, DST, GoI for organising an event of such magnitude.
He extended his warmest gratitude to all the participating schools and the accompanying teachers without whom the event would not have been a success. He encouraged the participants to take forward the learning and apply the knowledge to aid the progress and development of the country.
Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the various competitions that were held during the weeklong festival.
The last day of the event witnessed the participants flocking to the Book Fair where the books were sold at student friendly prices. (Page News Service)
