Dimapur, January 7: The 6-day Western Chakhesang Youth Organization (WCYO) biennial sports meet began today at Bade village with Isaac Kronu, Class-I contractor, as special guest.
Addressing the inaugural programme, Kronu exhorted the participants and guests to continue to pursue sports activity for better health and quality of living. He added that Chakhesang community is known for honesty, simplicity and good nature and such sports meet is the perfect opportunity to learn and maintain the pride of the community while also endeavouring to teach the same to others.
Kronu also appreciated the Western Chakhesang community for being self reliant and not depending on the native district for economic growth.
Lhüvesayi Lohe, president, Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) also addressed the programme. WCYO president, Likalo Letro delivered the welcome address while the programme was chaired by Shekhotso Medeo, VP, WCYO.
The WCYO was formed in 1970 while the 1st biennial sports meet was held in 1973. Presently, the WCYO consists of 17 units out of which 16 units are participating in the 6-day meet which will see competition in football, volleyball, badminton and relay race culminating on January 12.
