Water in Doyang dam increasing: DDMA
+100%-

Dimapur, July 31: The DDMA Wokha has informed that due to incessant rain in the upstream catchment areas of Doyang Hydro Electric Project (DHEP), the reservoir’s Reserve Water Level (RWL) of Doyang Dam is observed to be increasing beyond the agreed upon limit.
NEEPCO is maintaining constant supervision and is trying to maintain the Reserve Water Level at EL 324 m in the Dam. The water level in the Dam is being monitored constantly and excess water is being released from all the four spillway radial gates in a phase-wise manner to control flash flood in the downstream areas.
Due to the constant discharge of huge volume of water from the DHEP Reservoir, the Doyang River in the downstream is flowing above the normal mark.
In this regard, adjoining villages along the course of downstream Doyang river (Bodinakup) have been advised not to venture to the riverside either for fishing, camping or for any other purpose till further advisory.
The Bodinakup Village Councils along with the Village Development Management Authority (VDMA) are advised to inform the villagers about the dangers of flash floods and to deploy youth volunteers for alerting the people to stay away from the river.
Deputy Commissioner & Chairman, DDMA, has further instructed the SDRF and all Administration officers under Sanis, Bhandari, Englan and Chukitong circles to be on high alert and to constantly monitor the situation in consultation with the VDMA and village councils and be prepared to meet any eventualities.(Page News Service)
