Villagers trained on peace building

Dimapur, August 17: Zeliangrong village leaders of Dimapur including women have decided to be the harbingers of peace after attending a leadership training programme on peace building on August 15 on their own initiatives. The training was conducted by Peace Channel to strengthen the local capacities for peace in the community. The training aimed at enabling the community leaders to act for peace in the locality with basic skills for peace making.
Dr Fr CP Anto said the biggest problem on earth is lack of love and concern for others so he called upon the participants to learn how to love one another as brothers and sisters without discrimination based on community, religion, region, colour, tribe and age. He spoke about the importance of peace building and dialogue in the context of multi-cultural, religious and linguistic area of the village.
The main aim of People’s Forum for Peace (PFP) is to prevent violent conflicts, intervene and promote peace in the conflict situations. He said peace movement will train the youth, women and elders on different tools and skills on peace building and they also will be given certificates once the members are trained and completed the four levels of training.
Garol, project coordinator, Peace Channel moderated the sessions. Ajenpu, village secretary opened the programme with invocation prayer and Heling, chairman of the village extended welcome speech.
