Vikheho Swu kicks off 2nd Aphuyemi Football Cup


Dimapur, March 4: MLA Y Vikheho Swu inaugurated the 5-day 2nd Aphuyemi Football Cup on March 3 at Pughoboto Local Ground organized by Aphuyemi Football Club under the aegis of Sumi Games and Sports Association (SAGSA). All together 11 teams participated from various villages under Pughoboto Sub-Division. During the opening programme, Swu told the participants that they should not participate merely to represent the club by but strive hard to elevate the club and to make village and area proud and along with this the athletes should not part away with their education.
He spoke of Kihoto and Ghuzuhe who were employed in the Police Department in the past through football, he however lamented that in recent times there has not been any other from the area that has been able to earn their livelihood through sports and that the youth resources in sports has to be revived by initiating tournaments like this.
Swu also urged the Sumi Aphuyemi Teachers Welfare Organization (SATWO) to restart the Govt. Schools U-12 tournament and tap the talents of the young talent. He urged the citizens of Pughoboto to support the club, find sponsorships and the parents of the athlete to support their children; for the players he advised to judiciously use the infrastructure that is available, the newly constructed Pughoboto Stadium and the renovated Badminton Stadium, cultivate honesty, to be hard working and to respect the sport, the team and coaches as success is not gained overnight but through hard work and dedication.
