UTRC meet held at Mon District Jail

Mon, May 22: DLSA Mon conducted monthly Under Trial Review Committee (UTRCs) meeting at district Jail Mon on May 20.
In the meeting, it was reported that no Under Trial Prisoner (UTPs) was eligible to be released on bail and therefore no convicts were released in pursuance of the recommendations of the UTPs during the meeting.
All together 39 UTPs and 13 convicts are reported in the jail.
The meeting was attended by Seyeilenuo Mezhii, CJM cum secretary MDLSA, Thavaseelan K, IAS, DC Mon, Imnalensa IPS, SP Mon and Thungdemo Kikon, Assistant Jailor.
After the meeting, the library hall at district Jail Mon was inaugurated by DC Mon. The Deputy Commissioner Mon donated books to the inmates.
Legal awareness camp
DLSA Mon conducted legal awareness camp on “Equal justice & free legal aid” with inmates at Mon district jail conference hall on May 18.
Seyielenuo Mezhii CJM cum secretary MDLSA in her keynote address highlighted about the free legal aid. She added that free legal aid is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Indian constitution which has to be provided to every citizen of the country.
Thungdemo Kikon, Assistant Jailor, highlighted the status and condition of the under trial prisoners and convicts in the jail.
Temsumeren, APP, explained on rights of prisoners and basic human rights.
