Unnao and Kathua rape cases: NPMCC observes Black Day

Dimapur, April 17: In line with All India Mahila Congress (AIMC), the Nagaland Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (NPMCC) today protested against the recent spate of rape and murder cases of women and minors and the BJP’s complicity over growing crimes including Unnao and Kathua rape cases.
Addressing the occasion at Dimapur DCC complex, Mrs. N. Lucy, President, NPMCC said the ‘Black Day’ is being observed as women and children across the nation have lost freedom, safety and security. She said merciless rapes and barbaric mutilation and murders of women and minors have increased under BJP whose complicity has rendered the country unsafe for women and children.
Lucy said that the call today is ‘Justice for Asifa’ but cautioned that the same fate may befall anyone as the ruling BJP is doing nothing to deliver justice to the victims nor to improve safety and security to women and children. She said arrests in the recent cases highlighted in the media were made because of public outcry while BJP netas tried to shelter the accused and defended them with the National Flag.
Urging the citizens to raise their voice when such instances are encountered, she appealed to make the nation safe once again where women and minors can live in dignity without constant fear.
Also addressing the programme, Mrs. Tiala Sapu, working president, Dimapur District Mahila Congress Committee said today the media is filled with such stories and reiterated that many cases do not come to light. She said the trend has degenerated into victimizing not only women but even minors in the most inhuman crimes for which the ‘Black Day’ is being observed to extend solidarity with the victims and their families.
The programme ended with a prayer by Mrs. R. Lotha, President, Area Mahila Congress, Dimapur -I. (Page News Service)
