Dimapur, February 22: Unity College observed Matribhasha Diwas (International Mother Language Day) on February 21. It was observed to spread awareness on the linguistic and cultural diversity of India and to promote Multilingualism. The college organized a program based on this year’s theme ‘Language without borders’. It was chaired by M Tonlih Konyak and T Atomi Assumi invoked God’s presence and blessings for the successful conduct of the program.
Dr. Lichumo Enie, Principal of the college stressed on the importance of diverse languages in Nagaland. He also encouraged the students to learn different languages, cultures in order to progress together as a community.
T Chumdemo Ovung presented a special number in Nagamese. The program ended with a speech from Ramesh Gond who addressed the gathering in Hindi where he highlighted the importance of matribhasha and also reminded them of that each person should fulfill his promise of protecting the mother language.
