KOHIMA, OCTOBER 5: The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) of Nagaland has decided to give an upper hand to their partner NDPP in the ensuing bye-poll to 58-Shamatore-Chessore bye-election scheduled for October 30.
The seat has been vacant following the demise of sitting Legislator and Advisor Toshi Wungtung. UDA has all MLAs of NDPP, BJP, NPF and Independents.
Towards this end, the decision of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), which recently joined the ruling alliance to form United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and also the BJP was taken today.
The Working Committee of NPF held an emergency meeting today at Kohima following a letter from NDPP appealing to the Party not to set up a candidate for the bye-election.
After thorough deliberations, the NPF working committee unanimously decided to extend its support to the NDPP candidate.
The NPF also put on record the magnanimous gesture of Rukkimong, the intending candidate of NPF for agreeing to abide by the Party’s decision.
Meanwhile, interacting with a section of media persons, Deputy Chief Minister and BLP leader Y Patton said that the BJP as decided to support the NDPP candidate in the bye-election.
However, even as the elected members of the Assembly have resolved to support the NDPP candidate, which is yet to be announced, aspiring candidates from the constituency are working to set up fight as Independent candidate.
