U-15 girls Nagaland football team leaves for Sweden

Kohima, July 9: A 21-member squad comprising of 14 U-15 girls team and seven officials led by Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, MLA Zale Neikha today left Kohima for Sweden to participate in forthcoming Gothia Cup 2019, an international football cup at Gottenburg.
Imli Merenla Jamir is the captain of the 14 member state team, which will represent India in the Gothia Cup as SC Nagaland while team coach is FIFA Grade-A coach Sebastian Rasmussen and Assistant coach is Ruopfuo Meyase.
Besides MLA Neikha the team also includes Director YRS Akumla Chuba, PS to Advisor Notsol Neikha and official from CMO Neibalie.
Interacting with media persons, Neikha remarked that this feat to represent India in one set is no less an achievement but it is once in a lifetime opportunity.
Saying that the team has been professionally trained for the last few months under Sebastian, Neikha hoped that Nagaland team will be able to compete professionally at the highest level with other teams and come out winners at the tournament, showcasing to the rest of the world their abled-talent as a sportsperson and also the uniqueness of the Naga identity and culture during the opening ceremony of the tournament.
He said that this tournament will be a great experience and morale booster for the players to become professionals in the near future. He hoped that this participation at the Gothia Cup, will motivate and inspire other budding sportspersons to excel and become professionals at the national and international.
The Advisor also informed that the team would be wearing the traditional attire during the inaugural function of the tournament which will be held on July 15.
Further, Neikha appealed to the Naga community to wish them well and pray for the safety of the whole team.
Mention may be made here that department is making the first ever such initiative to take the local talents for exposure beyond the country in commemoration of the 100th year birth anniversary of legendary Naga footballer Dr T Ao.
