Srinagar, June 24: Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of south Kashmir on Sunday.
The encounter began in the afternoon in the Cheddar Qaimoh area of Kulgam district as Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with the CRPF and the Army, were carrying out operations to sanitise a national highway ahead of the annual Amarnath pilgrimage, beginning June 28, a senior police official said, as per PTI.
The third terrorist surrendered. Earlier, on Saturday, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat had reviewed the security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and in the hinterland in Kashmir during his day-long visit to the Valley.
Accompanied by Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh and Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen A K Bhatt, the Army Chief had visited forward posts along the LoC in the frontier districts of Kupwara and Baramulla where he was briefed on all aspects of operational and logistical preparedness. (Agencies)
