Sechü-Zubza on top of KFL-2 table
Kohima, August 10: Debutants Sechü-Zubza Football Club continued its dominance among the seven teams playing the Kohima Football League-2 organised by Kohima Town Club at Local Ground here.
At the end of the eight round of the league tournament, Sechü-Zubza with 17 points stands on the top having won 5 matches, drawn 2 and lost one match.
In the second position is the defending champion Ziekezou FC with 14 points as they won 4 matches, drawn 2 and lost 2 while Khriekesa FC Meriema are trailing in third position at 12 points as they won 3 matches, drawn 3 and lost 2.
On the other hand, runners-up of the first edition, New Market FC though had the opportunity of scaling up to second position are in the fourth place after losing Friday’s match by a solitary goal against Twenty XI FC Viswema.
New Market too has 12 points with 4 wins and 3 losses, but are behind Khriekesa because of goal difference.
Twenty XI is fifth with 11 points while bottom liners are Vanguard FC Tseminyu with 8 points and United 16 Lerie with 4 points.
Meanwhile, playing a closely contested match, Twenty XI FC Viswema defeated New Market FC by a solitary goal.
Both sides failed to make any decisive moves in the first half to move into the breather locked in a goalless draw. However, the 62nd minute witnessed a swift chase from Metol Neikha (7) to surpass rival defenders and strike the goal.
New Market tried hard to return to the game but they lacked combination to surpass through the rival defence line. Nonetheless, the dying moments did give them the rarest opportunity as defender Vizhü Neikha (11) handballed inside the six yard zone and was awarded a penalty by the referee. Vizhü Neikh, who had been penalized for unsporting behavior in the first half was sent off to the bench with second yellow card for the handball.
But to the disappointment of the team fans, Achamo Shitio (23) shot went wide off the mark as Twenty XI rejoiced and went ahead defending their solitary goal scored by Metol.
