
Senior Men’s Inter-District Tournament
Dimapur, May 24: Tseminyu defeated Zunheboto by 2 wickets; Mokokchung humiliated Phek by 192 runs while Kohima trounced Mon by 139 runs on Day-3 of the Senior men’s Inter-district tournament played at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium and Sovima Cricket Ground.
After being sent in to bat first, Zunheboto overcame early hiccups to post a competitive target of 144, after being restricted to 143/9 in 30 overs. For Zunheboto, Kavi Yeptho top scored with an unbeaten 44.
In the run chase, Tseminyu started off on a positive note as the opening batsman shared a 55 runs partnership with Alok Sharma scoring 53 runs and Potouzo Kent contributing 13 runs. It looked like an easy sail for Tseminyu but for Kavi Yeps who took 5 wickets in 4 overs and 3 wickets from Zunheboto’s skipper Hopito Assumi 3 wickets. But Monu Kumar (22 runs) and Henry Kent (21 not out) ensured that Tseminyu sealed the win by 2 wickets in 25.4 overs.
Man of the match was awarded to Monu Kumar for his crucial 22 runs knock and 2 wickets.
In the 2nd match, Mokokchung opting to bat after winning the toss made an imposing 225, with a captains knock of 85 runs from Vijay Rai and 51 from Champo 51. Viza was the pick of the Phek bowlers taking 2 wickets.
In the run chase, Phek could not withstand the pressure of the huge run chase and were bowled out for just 34 runs in 13.5 overs. Longsasunep gave a dazzling performance for the Mokokchung bowling unit as he picked up 6 wickets in 3.5 overs giving away only 10 runs. Man of the Match was awarded to Lolgsasunep for his 6 wickets haul.
At Sovima Cricket Ground, Kohima electing to bat first after winning the toss started off brilliantly with Imomenba silencing the naysayers with a brilliant 97 runs knock in 81 balls, and Zipa made 65 runs as Kohima scored 204 runs losing 5 wickets. Shamwang Wangnao was the pick of the Mon bowlers striking 3 wickets.
In the run chase Mon were bowled out for 65 runs in 18.4 overs. Man of the match was awarded to Imomenba Walling for his 97 runs knock.
