DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 28: Five Transport Unions/Associations have called for an indefinite economic blockade from 7 a.m. of September 29 after the expiry of the 3-day ultimatum served to the state Government.
It may be mentioned that following the cold-blooded murder of truck driver, Jiten Gogoi on September 28 last at Dimapur, the Dimapur District Truck Owners Association, Dimapur Truck Drivers Union, Dimapur District Truck Drivers Welfare Trade Union, Lahorijan & Khatkhati Truckers Welfare Society and Bokajan Truck Owners Association had given a 3-day ultimatum to the state Government demanding compensation to the family of the deceased, as well as safety of the transporters.
The ultimatum threatened to stop all trucks from entering Dimapur and to declare complete chakka jam indefinitely if their demands are not met.
According to a joint press release issued today, the transporters stated that the ultimatum served by the different Unions and Associations expired but as of now no positive outcome came from the Government of Nagaland, so the Unions and Association are compelled to call for an indefinite economic blockade from 7 a.m. of September 29.
Meanwhile, according to sources, Dimapur police has decided to provide armed escorts to all transport vehicles entering Dimapur through Dillai/New Field Check Gate bound for Dimapur town or in transit through Dimapur to Kohima district.
