Training on 6th MI Census held


Dimapur, September 18: State & District level training on 6th Minor Irrigation Census &Census of Water Bodies & release of 5th MI Census Report was held on September 18 at Conference Hall, Office of the Chief Engineer, Water Resources Department, Sponsored by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, GoI.
Commissioner & Secretary to the GoN & Centre Commissioner of MIC & CWBs, OT Chingmak Chang, IAS in the inaugural address thanked the Department for organising training cum- workshop to ensure quality of data collection on Irrigation and water bodies census.
He also appealed to the young Engineers to take up their duty happily wherever they are posted and perform their duty diligently for the upliftment of the people and urged them not to escape from learning new things and give it back to the society of what they have learned.
He pointed that within his joining of work in two months he expressed happiness to see young engineers working hard and giving their best in carrying out specific and detail work which shows how diligent one is to bring betterment of the people.
Chief Engineer, WRD & Jt. Commissioner MIC & CWBs, Er. Tsuktinungsang in his welcome address said that the objective of the census is to build a sound and reliable database in the Minor Irrigation (MI) sector for effective planning and policy making.
He informed that the funding for Minor Irrigation Census & Census of water bodies is 100% central assistance and from 2018-2019 onwards, Irrigation Census will be a part of umbrella scheme under “Prandhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana” (PMKSY) & other schemes and implemented as a stand-alone component.
He further informed that the Department of Water Resources as the Nodal officer for conduct of 6th Minor Irrigation Census &census of water bodies is making hectic preparation to launch the 6th MIC& Census of water bodies in the state along with the rest of the country with a reference year 2017-2018.
He also highlighted that the Department has so far participated in two workshop -National workshop on 16th March 2018 at New Delhi and Regional workshop on 10th&11th July 2018 at Gangtok, Sikkim. He also appraised that the census operation of 6th MIC &CWBs will commence throughout the state spreading over 11 Districts, 74 RD Blocks under Rural sector spreading over 1100 villages in the state and 32 Municipalities town councils under Urban sector consisting of 361 urban wards involving all the Divisional Engineers, SDOs, Junior Engineers, Sectional Officers, Sectional Assistance and other stake holders as District level officers /Block level officers of the census.
Earlier, 5th MI Census Report was released by Commissioner & Secretary, O.T. Chingmak Chang, IAS. The programme was chaired by Chief Engineer WRD, Er. Tsuktinungsang. In Technical Session: Er. Razouvolie Kelio, SE; Khriesatuo Kerets, ADS; Er. Wapangnaro Imchen, SDO-l were the resource persons.
