Train ticket helps police to  solve murder case

Dimapur, April 27: A train ticket found in the purse of a murdered woman has helped Dimapur police solve a murder case with the arrest of the accused on April 25.
Police identified the accused as Islam Uddin (36), son of Giyas Uddin of Barawar village, and a resident of Sarupathar, Golaghat, Assam. The accused is the husband of the victim.
Twenty-eight years old Rashida Khatun was found murdered in 6th Mile area here on March 11 last. During investigation, police found a Current train ticket from the victim’s purse, which led police to Sarupathar and Uriamghat in Golaghat district of Assam where the identity of the victim as well as the prime accused could be established.
Police said the accused has confessed that on March 10 on the pretext of visiting his friends and acquaintances in Dimapur, he along with his wife boarded the Avadh-Assam Express train from Sarupathar. On reaching Dimapur, the accused hired an autorickshaw and took her to 6th Mile. Thereafter the victim was taken by the accused husband on foot further into the interior of 6th Mile on the same ploy that his friend’s house was nearby, and after reaching a secluded paddy field murdered the victim by strangulation and bludgeoned with a stone. The accused then fled to Assam.
Police said the accused has also confessed that the criminal act was done due to a marital discord.
In this connection a case has been registered in Women PS for further investigation. (Page News Service)
