Traffic advisory for Dimapur-Kohima route


Dimapur, October 29: In view of blockage of National Highway-29 caused by mudslides and the ongoing restoration works at several locations, and after taking into account the condition of the various alternative routes from Dimapur to Kohima, it has been decided that all heavy vehicles transporting POL and other essential commodities from Dimapur to Kohima and vice versa would take the route via Chumukedima-Razaphe-Pimla Junction-Mhainamtsi-Medziphema-Peducha-Tsiesema-Kohima.
According to a circular issued by Principal Secretary, Home, Abhijit Sinha today, it has been decided to enforce one way traffic regulation between the stretch of road from Pimla junction to Mhainamtsi from 12 midnight to 6 a.m. and only up vehicles (from Dimapur to Kohima) including the heavy vehicles with essential commodities would be allowed.
During the remaining period, the aforesaid stretch would be open for both ways for light vehicles, but in respect of heavy vehicles only down traffic (from Kohima to Dimapur) would be allowed.
The Principal Secretary informed that light vehicles can also take the route via 10th mile-Zadima-Niuland.
For wide dissemination of information about the arrangements, and for immediate restoration of the aforesaid routes and also for ensuring that the route remains free and pliable for the heavy vehicles, a coordination committee has been constituted with Sendongmeren, IPS, DIG (IR North), PHQ as the Convenor.

Meanwhile, the DIG (IR North) would take immediate steps to activate the committees and ensure the movement of vehicles as indicated above. He would also submit action taken report in this regard to the Principal Secretary on a regular basis through mail/whatsapp/fax.
Kohima Police: Apropos to the traffic advisory issued on October 28, Kohima police has informed that the stretch of road via Kohima-Zhadima-Phekerkriema-Niuland is not motorable for heavy vehicles due to treacherous condition. Hence, heavy vehicles will not be permitted to take the route.
