Says 10-15 taxes levied on every item
Dimapur, May 11: The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has condemned the “uncountable and uncontrolled illegal collection spree” by various NPGs on business community and has appealed to the State Government to immediately intervene and take corrective steps.
In a press release, DCCI president Akashe K Zhimomi said the business community is paying at least 10-15 taxes on every item. Some of the taxes include yearly tax, agency tax, gate tax, transport tax, dealership, item wise tax and syndicate fees, etc.
“Nowhere in the world with such illegal multiple taxation a business can thrive,” he said.
The DCCI said all kinds of business in Dimapur have become unsustainable except illegal collection business and the business community has become totally insecure with threat, intimidation and overburdened with inability to pay such illegal collection.
Asking the State Government to immediately intervene, the DCCI warned that the business community may out of helplessness be forced to shut down the entire business in Dimapur.
