Tovihoto inaugurates Welcome Gate of NST Colony

Dimapur, September 24: Advisor Power, H. Tovihoto Ayemi on Saturday said that the 60 legislators of the NLA are facilitating the negotiations between the Government of India and NSCN (I-M) and they are not interested in election, are not campaigning, and want solution.
Speaking as the special guest during the inauguration of the welcome gate of NST Colony cum Thanks Giving programme for the recognition of the colony, Ayemi appealed for the support of the people for the long pending issue.
Commenting on the importance of gates in the Naga culture, he said that welcome gates are of symbolic significance for Nagas and while the colony took long to get recognized and now that it has been, it is also time for it to have a government appointed GB, for which he asked the people of the colony to have a conscious selection. Being centrally located, he said, the colony provides ample opportunities and asked the youths of the colony, therefore, to pick up businesses.
He mentioned on the occasion that development is a continuous process and nothing happens overnight. He claimed that the government of the day is committed to development and development is happening all over the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. He, therefore, asked for support from the people for the government and to treat the public properties as they would treat their personal belongings.
The chairman of NST Colony, N. Diswang Hau, during the welcome address mentioned that the colony was established in the year 1966 and it wasn’t until December 2021 that it was recognized. He also on the occasion submitted a memorandum to Ayemi relating to the repair of the colony’s approach road and construction of a council hall. Ayemi later assured to look into the demands and explore the way out together with the village.
Delivering a short speech during the programme, L. Yantsowo Lotha, retired Commissioner and Secretary stated that the colony has now matured and the residents need to know their responsibilities for the betterment of the colony. He advocated for a strong council, a youth body, and a women wing for the progress of the colony.
The colony presently has a population of 2500 and has 500 households.
