Kohima, February 24: In a move towards creating a tourist travel circuit among the North Eastern states, the tour operators of the region on Monday resolved framing of North East Tourism Policy through Development of North Eastern Region or North Eastern Council.
The resolution was adopted during the first North East Tour Operators Meet organized by Nagaland Tourism Department and supported by North Eastern Council attended by tour operator bodies of the eight North Eastern States in Kohima.
Framing of NE Tourism policy would be to make a principle priority to safeguard the interest and tourism development of North East India as one destination and protection the interest of the region.
They also decided that the North East Tour Operators (NETO) will be represented under the umbrella of rejuvenated North East India Travel Confederation (NEITC).
Stressing on the need for capacity building for skill development of the stake holders, the meet decided to approach the NEC, DoNER and NEDFi to fund road shows under the banner of NEITC in South Asian countries.
The tour operators of the region also resolved that the bi-lateral Air service agreement between India and Myanmar be re-amended by Ministry of Civil Aviation to announce point of Call for airports in North East India particularly Manipur and Tripura.
They further emphasized on the need to for giving an impetus to Act East policy initiative of the Centre for development of Tourism and trade industry. (Page News Service)
