Tongpang visits PWD Housing Complex & ME Office


Dimapur, April 21: Minister for PWD, Tongpang Ozukum today visited PWD Housing Complexes and Mechanical Engineering Office in Dimapur.
The Minister first visited the PWD Rental Housing Complex where he inspected the construction of new blocks under Phase III, IV and V. He expressed satisfaction with those contractors where were undertaking more works than the amount released. However, he urged the officials to pursue those contractors who were doing minimal works despite release of funds.
Officials told the Minister that the various projects should have been completed but been delayed owing to fund constraints.
The officials highlighted about land encroachment and illegal occupation on government lands.
Minister Tongpang directed the officials to see that no government land fell into the wrong hands.
During the visit, the Minister also interacted with the PWD Rental Housing Complex Tenants’ Committee and heard their problems. The Committee Chairman, Khehoshe Shohe informed the Minister that boundary walls of the campus had collapsed on one side thus becoming susceptible to anti-social activities inside the complex and also the imminent illegal occupation of government land.
On this issue, the Minister assured of looking into the issue. The Tenants’ Committee declared the entire Complex as a Plastic Free Zone honouring the visit of the Minister. The Committee also highlighted on the need to blacktop the road within the campus.
The Minister also visited the Office of the Assistant Mechanical Engineer, NU SETAM quarter and PWD complex at Landmark colony and lastly visited PWD Staff Quarter Campus at Sematilla Colony.
During his visit to various housing complexes, the Minister enquired into the needs of the tenants and the problems faced. The tenants and officials present stressed on the need for repair and renovation.
A request to construct Children’s Park at Sematilla, PWD Staff Quarter was proposed. In this regard, Commissioner & Secretary (Works & Housing), Bendangkokba directed the officials to submit a proposal for pursuing the matter.
The Minister was accompanied by Commissioner & Secretary (W&H), Bendangkokba, SE (Housing), K. Nakhro; EE (R&B), Er. Talitemsu Jamir; EE (Housing) Dimapur, Er. Nitoli, SDO II (Housing), L. Akumba and other officials.
