To tackle low vaccine coverage, Kiphire announces ‘awards’

DIMAPUR, JULY 10: Kiphire district administration has announced unspecified ‘awards’ for wards and at village level, in an attempt to tackle the district’s poor vaccine coverage, which is said to be the lowest in the State.
According to a DIPR bulletin, the Kiphire District Task Force on COVID-19 has resolved to ‘award’ those wards securing 100% vaccination. At the village level, the ‘award’ will be given to the one with the highest percentage of vaccination.


The Deputy Commissioner of Kiphire, T Wati Aier said that despite collective efforts, the district still has the lowest percentage of COVID-19 vaccination in the State.
He urged the members and ward chairmen, GBs and ward representatives to accelerate efforts in vaccination drive to achieve the target.
Aier informed that financial assistance will be given to all 11 wards to help monitor COVID-19 activities in their respective localities. The DC also suggested to the District Education Officer to educate the teachers and to create awareness on sensitisation and vaccination drive.
District Immunisation Officer, Dr. K Pewezo Khalo, said that around 30 villages in the district have not yet vaccinated even a single person.
He also said that as per Government directives, the target is to achieve 90% vaccination.
Chief Medical Officer, Motsuthung, while briefing on COVID-19 status, said that 6 people in the district have died of COVID-19 and out of which, only 1 had received the first dose of vaccine.
The members deliberated on COVID-19 3rd wave preparation with certain strategies and activities to be carried out in the entire district.


The DTF, in collaboration with 41 Assam Rifles, have decided to conduct intensified special vaccination drive on COVID-19 at Deluxe Point, Kiphire, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 11.
All the eligible beneficiaries have been informed to avail the opportunity.
