There cannot be 2 NSCN (R)s: Tatar Hoho Speaker

Nagaland News

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 20: A day after a breakaway group announced split in the NSCN (Reformation) and appointed Akato Chophy as its president, Speaker of Tatar Hoho of NSCN (R), Iheshe Aye today said that there were differences in the group but with the intervention of the NNPGs, an understanding was made and reconciliation was done but now another problem has cropped up with one section announcing the split.

Interacting with media persons at Thilixu village, Iheshe said it was reported that the Akato group was defending the ‘constitution’ but “as Speaker, I want to say that yesterday they appointed a Pro-Tem Speaker which is illegal when Speaker is already there.
He also said according to the constitution, the president only can convene the meeting, others cannot and therefore, yesterday’s meeting was unconstitutional.
The Tatar Hoho Speaker said that NSCN (R) is their government and that they have expelled Akato Chophy from the organization.
“Our stand is clear. There cannot be two NSCN (R)s”, he reiterated adding the other group is illegal. He also claimed that their members are intact in all the Regions, adding their members in Arunachal and Manipur are also intact.
Stating that they will not oppose those who went along with Akato Chophy, the Speaker said it is people-based government.
Regarding the announcement of ceasefire by Akato Group, he said it is up to the Government of India and that they will not be against them. “Whether they get ceasefire, it depends on Government of India”, he added.
The Speaker also reiterated that they are intact under the leadership of Wangtin and P Tikhak.
On the nomenclature of the group, the Speaker declared that the new group has to change the nomenclature.
On the split and claims made by Akato group that he has the support of more than 2000 cadres, the Speaker said that only few workers had engineered the split. He said the organization is not Dimapur-based but they have their presence in entire Nagaland and are present in all districts. He said among those who went along with Akato Chopy are 2 from Ao Region and 1 from Sangtam region and the rest is from Dimapur.
He further said that in the month of October when crisis emerged in the group, the signatories were only 226, although they don’t know the attendance during yesterday’s meeting but the claim that thousands of supporters attend is false.
He said the NSCN (Reformation) was formed in 2015 under the presidentship of Wangtin Naga and general secretary, P Tikhak and everyone knows that they are the Co-Convenor of the WC NNPGs.

He also admitted that there was a crisis last month due to differences among the leaders but the NNPGs intervened and made them sign an undertaking in the presence of Kitovi Zhimomi, Zhora Vero and Isak Sumi and reconciliation was done.
Earlier, in a telephonic conversation, NSCN (R) president, Wangtin Naga said that they don’t want split in the group and have requested the NNPGs to use their wisdom on the impasse.
He also said that the NNPGs has tried hard to resolve the issue, but “I don’t know what made Akato to this.”
