Dimapur, January 30: Former Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Thenucho Tunyi has expressed grief at the passing away of former Union Minister George Fernandes, saying in his death we have lost a true friend of the Nagas and the Northeast.
“George was among the few politicians in India who knew the political rights of the Nagas, he said.
Stating that he came to know George in 1977 and have remained friends for more than 40 years, Thenucho said, “I will always be indebted to him, I can never forget that when I lost elections in 1993, he came to Kohima and stayed with me for a week. When I was injured in Imphal in 1998 he arranged a chopper to lift me and while undergoing treatment at AIIMS, food was brought from his house.”
The conveyed condoled the demise of the leader and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
