Dimapur, September 17: Tetso College observed its Freshers Day on September 16 with Professor Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, as special guest.
A press release informed that Principal Dr. Hewasa L Khing, delivering the welcome address, extended warm greetings to all present and challenged the freshers to practice the vision and mission of the college to empower themselves towards lifelong excellence and to go on creating a positive impact in the world.
Professor Jagadish Kumar Patnaik addressed the gathering first expressing his passion for the mission of education. He stated that he took up the profession for the love of being in the midst of young minds who he emphasised “inspired thinkers and teachers and not the other way around”.
Congratulating the freshers on their new journey, Patnaik related the current scenario of education in Nagaland, calling for students to take advantage of the progressive changes brought in by NEP 2020.
While it has only been a year into his office as Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, he expressed optimism that colleges like Tetso will be a great asset to the knowledge base of the State, and the nation at large.
He especially emphasised on the college’s potential to contribute to developing content around what he termed ‘Naga Indian Knowledge.’ The possibility of having Swayam modules around the subject, taking advantage of the technology available on campus especially excited him, he added.
Patnaik, who also inaugurated the newly furnished Recording Room at the college, encouraged the students to take advantage of the college’s excellent infrastructure and educational services to carve a fulfilling future for themselves and the communities they inhabit.
He stated that excellence need not necessarily mean inhabiting offices in the upper echelons of government or any other such traditional spaces but being persistent in one’s efforts to achieve whatever goals have been set with concentrated effort.
Earlier, the informal session witnessed a host of events such as Mr. & Miss Fresher 2023, dance, songs, and other special performances. The Mister and Miss Fresher Contest has been a beloved tradition at Tetso, and this year’s edition was nothing short of magical.
