Dimapur, April 14: Joining with the rest of the world in commemoration of the 130th birth anniversary of Bharatratna Dr BR Ambedkar, ‘DOT Talks’- An initiative of Tetso College, Dimapur to discuss and share ideas on issues, trends and life experiences, in collaboration with the Department of Political Science of Tetso College, has decided to organize an online public lecture series titled ‘The relevance and significance of Dr BR Ambedkar: Today & Tomorrow’. The academic endeavour will be graced by internationally recognized academicians, thinkers, and also students who will be delivering consecutive lectures in the coming days. Coordinator of DOT Talks and faculty member of the Department of Political Science, Tetso College Dr Aniruddha Babar informed.
The opening lecture in the series called ‘Thinking about Democracy’ was delivered by V. Geetha, a historian, feminist, Ambedkarite scholar and translator from Tamil Nadu on April 14 at 3 pm. The lecture was attended by students, faculty members and dignitaries from Nagaland and different parts of India.
Prof. Ajit Menon, Madras Institute of Development Studies and Prof. Ven. Nyanissara Bhante, Department of Buddhist Studies, Arunachal University of Studies were among the special invitees for the occasion.
During the Q&A session, participants raised questions as to the contribution of Dr BR Ambedkar in the context of the northeast India, debates on separate electorates, caste & racial conflicts and the future of democracy, governance and identity politics, Ambedkar’s criticism on Karl Marx, Dr Ambedkar’s vision for the nation and his quest for social justice, etc.
The first lecture ended with concluding remarks from Dr Aniruddha Babar.
